VOIP Support in the IOQ3 Engine!

From the IOQUAKE3 Site:

Lets examine two quick points:
Hardcore gamers like choices.
Hardcore gamers like VOIP.

Based on these theories, ioquake3 is adding VOIP support for the next release. This internal support is going to bring along with it support for (entirely optional) Mumble positional VOIP audio. More nerd-speak after the break, the short and quick of it is, however:

We’re going to have VOIP for mods/new games, and baseq3. This is a pretty radical departure from the initial goal of not changing anything in baseq3, and is probably the single largest (obvious) end-user benefit for using ioquake3.

The fact of the matter is that if you want to blame someone for allowing it to be included, you can blame me (Zachary, lead omnipresent overseer of ioquake and related entities). If, however, this makes you happy and you want to praise somebody, give either big ups OR big props to Ryan Gordon (lead intergalactic space nerd) and Ludwig (Herr Angst).

The Voip Support is already in the ioq3 SVN..

Read the full story here:
http://ioquake3.org/2008/05/30/voip-support-in-svn/#more-69

Changes in The Trepidation Project

The loose organization of the Trepidation project has proved somewhat ineffective, causing a lot of stuff not getting done.

Basically where we stand right now is a lot of finished code with an incredible amount of game media to complete; most of the game media in the existing development builds is filler which needs to replaced with original content.

Many of our original development team members have gotten too busy with work, school, or life in general. Some have moved on to newer games. Compiled over time without finding replacements, we are left with a very lean team; A mapper, 2 programmers, and a handful of testers.

We have decided to re-organize the development process, as well as how the tasks are deployed to the development team. This means finding new team members with the interest, commitment and appropriate skills to fill the positions left open by departures and MIAs.

I’ll be taking the helm on the project -- Before now, I would always announce that everything was done via consensus and there was no person in charge. This approach didn’t seem to work. The project was my idea, and I seem to be the one doing most of the management anyways.

While we do have some of the original developers, we will be revisiting the roadmap and the goals of the game itself and making a lot of decisions on what direction(s) to go with the various aspects of the game.

We are currently seeking the following for the Team:

Sound Engineer
Responsible for creating and maintaining the various sounds. Including, but not limited to weapon sounds, player sounds, world sounds and any sound effect needed for the completion of v1.0.

2d Artist
The Trepidation project is seeking 2d Artists to help designing textures and 2d art for Trepidation, a Quake III Engine based game.

3d MD3/MDR Artist
The Trepidation project is seeking 3d Artists to help designing weapon and world models for Trepidation, a Quake III Engine based game. The model formats used in the game are MD3 and MDR/MD4 format. If interested, shoot an email or visit our forums

Q3 Engine Level Designer
The Trepidation project is seeking level designers to help designing levels for Trepidation, a Quake III Engine based game. Levels are needed for a variety of game types.

If your interested in any of these positions, shoot me an email @ shafe(*at*)planettrepidation(*dot*)com

Master Server Downtime

I'm moving a server on friday the 18th. the downtime will be anywhere from 12 to 48 hours. If everything with all of the 3rd parties goes smooth it should really only take about 6 hours... But with my experience with Qwest.. I'm sure there will be a problem.

What will be effected is:

- The main master server for Trepidation, The alternate masters will still be functional.

- All planettrepidation email notifications (forums, mantis, etc).

This website itself will not be effected, only outgoing email from the site.

Trepidation Turns 1

Trepidation Turns 1

After the last development build the team took a break from development for a little while, but now we're back in full force. As of April 10th the Trepidation project hit it's one year mark.

DiViNiTY Has offered up 19 tracks of Music for Trepidation. Expect to see some of his work in future builds. If you are interested in checking out his work check the thread in our forums.

Gigon has once again dazzled us with some great new maps. First, a trio of maps to torture the bots, then a beautiful map called CTF_TREPXUS -- See the screenshots: screenshot 1 - screenshothot 2 - screenshot 3

Once again we're looking for some talent. Mainly, 2d and 3d graphic artists, a mac programmer to help making MAC builds, as well as one or two level designers.

If your interested, drop by the forums and say say hello.

Development Build Available For Download

The first development build being made available to the general public can be found on the downloads page. The dev build doesn't come close (yet) to representing the final game, but it is playable. As you will see, it is missing a lot. Again, this is only a development snapshot, it shouldn't be considered and alpha version let alone a beta.

We've spent a great deal of time over the past few months working on the code for the Trepidation gametype. While we still don't have models for most of the buildables (and several other things for that matter), things are progressing nicely.

The latest development build incorporates the IOQ3 engine from SVN 1011 which supports http/ftp download redirects for ingame downloads. SKareKrow has brought us CTF_PYRAMIDE2 complete with a scary smasher to smash anyone who gets in range.

We have finished over half the needed weapon models for trepidation with more to come. A few models where donated by LD Ash, some we are using as placeholders for the moment and a few will become permanant fixtures in Trepidation. Be sure to check out his site @ www.violationentertainment.com. Again we are looking for some modelers! :)

Happy New Year! In 2007 Trepidation Hopes to Expand Development Team

The holidays are drawing to a close and time to get back in the groove. In 2007 we have decided that we would like to expand our development team. We currently have positions open for the following.

3D Modellers
The Trepidation engine is based on the Quake 3 engine and supports both MD3 (Q3) and MDR/MD4 (EF) model formats. We are currently seeking to expand our 3D Artist team. 3D Artists will be doing design and modeling for weapons, buildables, ammo and powerup models. As well working with the programmers on in-game behaviours.

2D Artists
The 2d artwork consists of everything flat. Including map & model textures, ui graphics, and various pieces of artwork needed to complete the game.

Test Team Members:
We are currently looking for people in several time zones to assist with testing. Testers should be good at troubleshooting and be able to offer detailed feedback. As well as be able to submit bug reports with detailed steps to reproduce problems. We are not looking for someone to play the game once and tell us what they dont like about it. We are looking for people to offer feedback on an ongoing basis. We are looking for Windows and Linux testers.

There are a variety of other odds and ends that need to be done so there is certainly room for other talent.

If your interested, visit our forums and introduce yourself in this fun introduction thread :)
http://www.planettrepidation.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=185
